The 3rd Orken Holy War (non-narrative)

Following the death of the orken god of war in the later days of the ethnostate wars the largest of the orken empires were upset with the decisions of their gods to no longer manifest and so declared a holy war, the 3rd ever declared even in myth. The armies of these orken empires entered the etheric realm and fought their way to the throne of their war god. 3 warriors together slew the war god and, drinking deep of the god-blood, ascended as one to become the new orken god of war. This new god, upon turning from the corpse of the old god to gaze from the throne at their realm saw such devastation and butchery that even their heart could not beat with the same hot rage that lead them there. They announced to their soldiers that they were wrong, they were foolish, and that they could not continue on this path without ruining themselves. If orks could turn back now they might be able to avert the dooming their people.

During the ethnostate wars and into the holy war orks had cultivated a magical fungus that when dried and eaten would massively heighten the magical powers of the user, allowing a single ork warrior to go toe-to-toe with the men of fire for a period of time. However these fungi were unstable to produce and strict sanitation procedures had to be maintained to ensure that spores were not allowed to spread beyond the labs that the fungi were grown in. Containment was breached sometime during the logistical shuffling in preparation for the holy way and the source of the power that had allowed them to kill gods escaped their control, quickly encountering the population where it manifested as a fungal parasite. Orks infected with this parasite became a sort of zombie and a multi-system pandemic was soon spreading through the various empires. Had this not occurred it is likely at least one additional holy war would have been called although there is debate as to whether or not the call would have been answered. This outbreak was presumably not contained, as after the period of time that was destroyed by REDACTION the orken worlds that were lost to this infection became the elven home worlds.

After the 3rd holy war's apotheosis there were a series of minor religious conflicts between various groups in the orken empires. The factions were formed from various denominations and did not hold strict ties to any political affiliation. As such you could find orks from rival empires engaged in conflict under the same banner due to a shared religious beliefs. This turmoil seems to have largely ended after REDACTION.
